Approve and maintain the spine-specific ontology and core data standards.
Access Governance
Review all applications for de-identified data access, research and commercial.
AI Oversight
Oversee model development, validation, and monitor for bias and drift.
Ethical Framework
Manage conflicts of interest, ensure transparency, publish accountability reports.
COMPOSITION
Who Sits on the Council
The Surgeon Governance Council comprises 9–12 members appointed for staggered two-year terms. The composition is designed to reflect the breadth of the specialty while ensuring methodological rigor.
- 60% Academic Surgeons — fellowship-trained spine surgeons at major academic medical centers
- 30% Private Practice — high-volume community spine surgeons bringing real-world perspective
- 10% Methodologists & Ethicists — biostatisticians, AI researchers, and clinical ethicists
The council meets quarterly with ad-hoc sessions as needed. Members serve in a compensated advisory capacity with documented conflict-of-interest disclosures.
